Sikorsky spoke out against Ukraine's accelerated accession to the EU

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski stated that the idea of Ukraine’s rapid accession to the European Union will not be supported. He emphasized that Kyiv must go through the full and standard process of EU accession.

Sikorski made this statement in an interview with RMF24

The politician was asked about the position of Hungary’s future Prime Minister Péter Magyar, who had stated that he does not support Ukraine’s accelerated accession to the EU.

Sikorski agreed with Magyar’s words, stating that his country’s position is identical. In his view, Ukraine must go through the full process of European integration, just as Poland did in its time.

"He is saying what is also our position. The idea of accelerated membership has emerged in the European Commission. That will not happen. We believe that Ukraine must fulfill all the conditions, just as we had to do. And, of course, there will be difficult chapters in the negotiations, such as agriculture or transport," the Polish minister stated.

Sikorski reacted sarcastically to the detention of Ukrainian cash collectors in Hungary.

As a reminder, Lubinec, Ukraine’s ombudsman, appealed to Imre Juhász regarding the detention of seven Ukrainian citizens, employees of Oschadbank.

Recall that Hungarygave Ukraine three days to resume oil transit via the Druzhba pipeline.
