A severe thunderstorm with hail struck northern Italy; there are casualties
On Friday evening, the Lombardy region in northern Italy was hit by a severe storm with strong winds and hail. In some areas, the storm caused significant property damage and injured people.
Following yesterday’s tornadoes and hailstorms, authorities in the provinces of Cremona, Mantua, Bergamo, and Pavia in Lombardy will ask the government to extend the state of emergency—already declared in recent days— to these areas due to the damage caused by the wave of severe weather that has struck the region since August 20.
Lombardy’s regional authorities stated that they will declare a state of emergency in the affected areas.
Among the hardest-hit areas is the city of Cremona, where roofs were torn off dozens of buildings. Ten churches were damaged, including City Hall and the cathedral.
In the region, winds toppled hundreds of trees, and there are reports of thousands of cars damaged by giant hailstones. In Cremona, 43 people were injured as a result of the storm.

Heavy rain in the Rivne region led to flooding of a section of the M-06 Kyiv–Chop international highway near the village of Varkovychi. This caused a traffic jam stretching for several kilometers, and police were forced to implement alternating traffic.
