The U.S. and Iran have resumed exchanging strikes after a month-long hiatus – CNN

On the evening of August 30 and into the night of August 31, the U.S. and Iran launched new strikes against each other, resuming hostilities after more than a month of calm. The new exchange of strikes marked the resumption of direct military confrontation between the two countries.

The U.S. and Iran launched reciprocal strikes. The U.S. military struck several Iranian launch sites on Larak Island, which, it claims, were preparing to begin remote mining of the Strait of Hormuz.

“Iran posed a threat, and the U.S. military eliminated it to protect civilian sailors, commercial shipping, and the free flow of global trade,” Central Command stated.

In response, Iran struck two U.S. air bases in Jordan. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps called the American strikes a “fatal mistake,” according to CNN.

Earlier, Iran stated that it would resist U.S. sanctions.

The New York Times explains why the U.S. cannot end the war with Iran.
