Trump says Iran seeks to reach a deal with the US
US President Donald Trump said that Iran seeks to reach a deal with Washington as soon as possible. In a post on Truth Social, he wrote that the United States would decide on possible engagement, although the idea of negotiations itself was acceptable to them.
As Asharq Al-Awsat reports, Trump’s statement came amid the postponement of a planned meeting between Iran and the Arab states of the Persian Gulf and an escalation of the situation in the region.
Meeting in Oman postponed
Oman was due to host talks on Monday between Iran and the Gulf states on restoring shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil transportation routes. Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi said overnight that the meeting had been postponed.
Iran also published a list of 77 vessels that, according to Tehran, violated the rules for passage through the Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian side warned that during future transits, these vessels could be fined, detained or confiscated.

Oil and diesel prices
On Monday, after the market opened, crude oil prices rose by more than 4%, but partially gave up their gains during early trading in the United States. The average retail price of diesel fuel in the United States exceeded $6.23 per gallon, reaching a new record level.
US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said that the average number of vessels covertly passing through the strait with US support is increasing. At the same time, independent monitoring services suggest that oil shipment volumes may have declined this month after a new intensification of hostilities in the region.
The day before, Trump also said that he expected the war with Iran to end shortly after the US midterm elections in November. He predicted that oil prices would “fall sharply” after that.
