Vessel capsizes in DR Congo: at least 12 dead — The Hindu

A vessel carrying fish traders capsized on Lake Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo. At least 12 people were killed, and dozens are considered missing. The incident in the eastern part of the country was reported by The Hindu, citing authorities.

Accident near Idjwi Island

The vessel was carrying more than 50 fish traders and their goods. It capsized on the night of September 26 near Idjwi Island in South Kivu province. The accident became known on Sunday, September 27.

About 15 people rescued

According to Felix Habiragi, the head of the nearby village of Kisheke, about 15 people were rescued after the accident. He also said that the cause of the vessel's capsizing could not be immediately established. Information about the dead and missing was provided by authorities.
