France has recorded a record low water level in small rivers
As of the end of July, water levels in France’s small rivers and streams had fallen to a historic low for this time of year, according to a report by the French Office for Biodiversity.
Completely dried-up sections were recorded at nearly 1,400 water bodies across the country, with the number of such streams increasing by more than 550 in July alone. Experts are calling the current drought the most severe on record for this time of year: the current figures are worse than the previous record low set in 2022 and are twice as severe as the low water levels recorded in 2025.

More than 300,000 people have been evacuated in France and Spain due to massive wildfires that have swept through regions of Southern Europe. In southwestern France, in the Gironde region, more than 220,000 residents have left their homes. The fire there has spread across approximately 32,700 hectares.
As a reminder, French passengers who purchased train tickets to the region around Bordeaux will be able to exchange or refund them free of charge. This decision was made due to the massive wildfires that have complicated the situation in the area.
