Ghana’s accommodation establishments see RevPAR fall 19% — MyJoyOnline
In Ghana, revenue per available room, or RevPAR, at accommodation establishments fell from 603 Ghanaian cedis in November 2024 to 490 cedis in January 2025. This amounts to approximately 19%, according to data from the Ghana Statistical Service, MyJoyOnline reports.
RevPAR reflects the revenue generated from available rooms and makes it possible to assess how effectively accommodation establishments convert their available room inventory into revenue.
Decline in occupancy and rates
Room occupancy in the country also declined, from 46.6% in December 2024 to 44.1% in January 2025. The average daily rate (ADR), meaning the average price of an occupied room, fell over this period from 1,351 cedis in November to 1,112 cedis in January.
In February, the sector showed a moderate recovery, with RevPAR rising to 524 cedis. The Statistical Service noted that the performance of accommodation establishments depends on both pricing and occupancy levels. High rates do not ensure significant revenue if a noticeable share of rooms remains unoccupied.

Highest figures in Greater Accra
The Greater Accra Region recorded the highest RevPAR throughout the four-month period. In November 2024, the figure stood at 1,165 cedis, fell to 852 cedis in January, and recovered to 935 cedis in February. The region also recorded the highest average daily rates.
According to the survey, from November 2024 to January 2025, available capacity amounted to approximately 5 million to 5.2 million room nights, while the number of occupied rooms ranged from 2.25 million to 2.42 million. In February, available capacity declined to 4.69 million room nights, while the number of occupied rooms fell to 2.1 million.
The Statistical Service recommended that tourism authorities and businesses take occupancy, pricing, RevPAR, guest composition, and length of stay into account when making investment and operational decisions. At the same time, the service stressed that the results cover only four months of a 12-month data collection program and constitute an initial basis for further observations.
