Offensive inscriptions appear on wall of historic mosque in Xanthi, Greece

Unknown individuals wrote offensive statements targeting religious values on the exterior wall near the entrance to the historic Cinar Mosque in Xanthi, in Western Thrace, Greece. The incident was discovered on September 13, Anadolu Agency reported, citing the Advisory Board of the Turkish Minority of Western Thrace.

Board's assessment

In its statement, the board described the inscriptions as offensive expressions incompatible with humanity, morality and the respect that should be shown to places of worship. The organization condemned the act on behalf of the Turkish minority of Western Thrace and the broader Muslim community.

They expect those responsible to be identified

Board representatives stated that any attack or display of disrespect toward places of worship, holy sites and religious beliefs is unacceptable. They expressed hope that those responsible for the inscriptions would be identified and detained as soon as possible, after which they would be brought before a court and punished.
