Israeli tourist disappears in Greece during hike on Mount Olympus — Jerusalem Post

Greece has reported the disappearance of 46-year-old Israeli tourist Ami Yogev, who set out on a hike in the Mount Olympus area. The Jerusalem Post reported this, citing Israel’s KAN News television channel and statements from the man’s family.

Contact was lost after the route began

According to his relatives, Yogev set out on the hike on Sunday, and shortly afterward his family lost contact with him. He last contacted his mother and sent her a photograph from the second stop on the route he was following.

According to KAN News, the tourist’s disappearance was reported on Tuesday evening.

Contacts with local authorities

Israel’s Foreign Ministry said that the Israeli consul in Athens and the department for Israeli citizens abroad are in contact with local authorities and are working to provide possible assistance in establishing the tourist’s whereabouts.

A Facebook group for Israelis traveling in northern Greece said that Yogev’s family is in an extremely anxious state. Tourist guide Sivan Zamir, who runs the group, said she would travel to the Olympus area to begin the search. According to her, she is in contact with mountain rescuers and local emergency services.

Zamir also called on people on routes in the area to report if they had seen or heard about a person matching Yogev’s description.
