Two suspects remanded in custody in Karachi assault case
A judicial magistrate in Karachi, Pakistan, remanded Muhammad Ibrahim and Waqar Ali in judicial custody in a case involving the alleged assault of a young man in the DHA Phase 8 area. Dawn reports.
Court refuses to extend police custody
An investigating officer brought the suspects before a judicial magistrate in the South district after the completion of the second period of their police custody. He requested a third extension of police custody.
In the application, the investigating officer stated that three other alleged accomplices had obtained pre-arrest bail and joined the investigation. According to him, police seized a car and a mobile phone.
The investigating officer also said it was necessary to detain the other suspects and recover a baseball bat and a weapon that, according to his version, had been used during the offence. In addition, he planned to conduct an identification parade of the suspects before the magistrate.

The court considered the investigating officer's application and the medico-legal report, after which it found no grounds for further police custody. The magistrate sent the two men to jail in judicial custody and ordered the investigating officer to submit an interim charge document within the prescribed time.
Victim's statement
According to the publication, a video was circulated on social media in which the suspects allegedly attack Syed Ali Jafri. After that, Jafri filed a report at the Sahil police station concerning offences including assault, abduction and threats.
Jafri claimed that he initially did not report the incident to police out of fear, but decided to do so after people involved in the incident circulated the video on social media. According to him, after visiting a gaming establishment and a cafe in the Bukhari Commercial area, he was allegedly struck on the neck with a baseball bat, forcibly put into a car and taken to an empty plot on Sahil Avenue in Phase 8.
In his statement, he also said that he was beaten on the legs, pulled by the hair, threatened against his family, and that the assault was recorded on video. Jafri said the attackers demanded 30,000 Pakistani rupees from him.
