China launches first cross-border freight route via Pinglu Canal — ECNS
The first cross-border river-sea freight route via the Pinglu Canal has begun operating in Guigang, in China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It connects Laos and Vietnam with the city of Guigang, ECNS reports.
First cargo
The first shipment on the route carried 3,012.66 tonnes of potassium chloride. The cargo is headed to the production base of a fertilizer manufacturing company in Guigang.
According to Pinglu Canal Group, the route is intended to help establish a two-way logistics chain: raw materials will be delivered northward to the enterprise, while finished products will be transported southward to foreign markets.

Shorter transportation
The company said that the delivery of imported potassium chloride from the Vietnamese port of Vung Ang via the Pinglu Canal is nearly 500 kilometres shorter than traditional routes. Transport time is expected to be reduced by five to seven days.
According to Pinglu Canal Group, fewer transshipments and cargo-handling operations should reduce costs and cargo losses. The new route also provides companies along the Xijiang River with two routes to access the sea, which, the group said, will strengthen supply-chain resilience and support stable fertilizer production.
