Maya Train passengers evacuated in Mexico after track-related incident
Passengers on the Maya Train were evacuated on the Cancún–Palenque route in the Mexican state of Campeche after an incident that the operator described as track-related. The event occurred during departure from the San Francisco de Campeche station, Mexico News Daily reports.
Passengers were taken to another station
According to the state-owned company Tren Maya, the incident occurred at around 3:30 p.m. It involved the last carriage, which traveled approximately 50 meters from the rail terminal. The driver stopped the train in accordance with technical procedures.
The company said that none of the 123 passengers were injured. People were evacuated as a precaution and transported by road to the Edzná station, from where they were to continue their journey on another train. The operator also said it had activated passenger assistance protocols and ensured continuity of transport services.

Report of carriage derailment is being checked
In its statement, Tren Maya described the event as a track-related incident. At the same time, a number of media outlets reported a partial derailment of the last carriage. A technical report that would confirm or refute this version and establish the causes of the event has not yet been published.
The Railway Accident Investigation Commission has begun the necessary checks. This is the third incident of this type involving the Maya Train: in August 2025, a train derailment without injuries was reported near Mérida, while in March 2024, a train derailed in Tixkokob, in the state of Yucatán. At that time, the cause was said to be a problem with a switch component.
