Nigeria plans to establish Dotun Oladipo Prize for online journalism
The Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) of Nigeria plans to establish the Dotun Oladipo Prize for Online Journalism in memory of its former president. Premium Times Nigeria reported this, citing a statement by GOCOP Deputy President Olumide Iyanda.
Iyanda announced the initiative on behalf of the guild during a memorial service for Oladipo at Regal Hall at the Daystar Christian Centre in the Oregun area of Lagos. According to him, the award is intended to recognize outstanding work in Nigerian online journalism and preserve the values Oladipo embodied as a journalist, publisher and leader. The guild plans to determine the details of the format and conditions for awarding the prize later.
Former GOCOP president
Dotun Oladipo died on August 25 at the age of 56. He was one of GOCOP's founders and led the organization from 2017 to 2021. Until his death, Oladipo was the publisher of The Eagle Online.

According to Iyanda, Oladipo remained active in the guild's work after completing his presidential term. At the time of his death, he chaired GOCOP's constitution review committee and was involved in arranging accommodation for participants who were to come to Lagos for the guild's annual conference in October.
Work for colleagues
Iyanda also said that on the morning of the day of his death, Oladipo had planned to go to the office, including to sign a guarantor form for a GOCOP member who was due to travel abroad. The guild's deputy president described Oladipo as a person who helped colleagues, took part in important decisions and contributed to resolving internal matters.
Representatives of Nigeria's media community attended the event, including GOCOP's first president Malachy Agbo, former guild president Maureen Chigbo, President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors Eze Anaba, and Vice President of the Nigerian chapter of the International Press Institute Fidelis Mbah. GOCOP expressed condolences to Oladipo's wife, Taiwo, their children and family.
