Public transport fares to rise in Germany in 2027 — The Local Germany
Several major transport associations in Germany have announced fare increases for buses, trams and local trains from 2027. The changes were announced by networks in Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, Bremen and Lower Saxony, while prices in the Frankfurt region will remain unchanged at the beginning of the year, The Local Germany reports.
Operators explain the fare revisions by rising costs for energy, fuel and personnel. Some transport associations are also changing the range of available tickets due to changing demand following the introduction of the nationwide Deutschlandticket.
Berlin and Munich
The Berlin-Brandenburg transport association VBB will raise fares by an average of 3.72% from January 1, 2027. The price of a single Berlin AB ticket will remain at 4 euros. At the same time, a four-trip ticket in the Berlin AB zone will rise from 12.40 to 13.20 euros, while a short trip will increase from 2.80 to 2.90 euros. A single Berlin ABC ticket for travel to BER Airport and other destinations in the region will cost 5.20 euros instead of 5 euros.
In Munich and the surrounding area, MVV fares will increase by an average of 4.9% from January 1, 2027. Prices for a short trip and a standard single ticket for the central M zone will remain unchanged. A day ticket for this zone will cost 10.80 euros, while a multiple-trip ticket will cost 21 euros, or 19.50 euros in digital format. Monthly passes will rise by an average of 4.8%, and MVV plans to discontinue more than a quarter of its current ticket types.

Weekly tickets will no longer be offered.
