Remains found in Goulburn River may belong to missing kayaker
Human remains have been found in the Goulburn River near Ghin Ghin in the northeast of Australia’s state of Victoria, six weeks after 53-year-old kayaker Shane Wilson went missing. Police believe the remains may belong to him, but formal identification has not yet been completed, ABC News Australia reports.
Discovery in the river
The remains were discovered on Sunday in the Goulburn River near Ghin Ghin, close to Ghin Ghin Road. Shane Wilson disappeared on July 18 while fishing from a kayak on the river near Ghin Ghin. His kayak capsized, and the alarm was raised by a witness who was on the riverbank.

Search and investigation
Victoria Police, the Country Fire Authority, Lifesaving Victoria and the State Emergency Service (SES) were involved in the search operation. An SES spokesperson previously said that Wilson was a strong swimmer, but he was not wearing a life jacket and the river current was fast.
Police are not treating the death as suspicious and will prepare a report for the coroner.
