In Seoul, former actor on a jet ski rescues schoolboy from river — Korea Herald
In Seoul, South Korea, American Michael Blank pulled a schoolboy from the Han River after hearing cries near World Cup Bridge. The former actor and wakeboarder got on a jet ski and reached the student, who was in the water.
Rescue operation on the Han River
The incident occurred at about 7:40 a.m. on September 14. Blank said he was walking near his office on the riverbank when he heard cries. After going outside, he saw only the schoolboy’s head in the water, and, according to him, the boy was trying to swim.
Blank immediately headed to the student on a jet ski and pulled him from the water. Surveillance camera footage shows him making his way to the boy and later handing him over to rescue service workers who arrived shortly afterward. A fire department official said the schoolboy was conscious and breathing normally when he was placed in the rescuers’ care.

Supported the boy until help arrived
While waiting for rescuers, Blank tried to calm the boy and act like an older brother or uncle. According to him, the schoolboy repeatedly apologized for making him come to his aid. Blank replied that there was no need to worry, patted him on the head and shoulders, and encouraged him.
As Korea Herald reports, a witness recognized Blank from his television appearances after enlarging a photo taken at the scene. Blank made his debut in Korean drama in the MBC series Assorted Gems, which aired in 2009–2010, and later appeared in the SBS series New Tales of Gisaeng in 2011. Before his acting career, he worked in Korea as a wakeboarder and now, according to SBS, works for a bottle manufacturer.
