Singapore cancer center disclosed email addresses of 467 letter recipients — Channel NewsAsia
Singapore’s National Cancer Centre (NCCS) apologized after an electronic invitation was sent to 467 addresses with email addresses visible to other recipients. As Channel NewsAsia reports, the email was sent on Friday evening.
Event invitation
The email contained an invitation to the Living with Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer event. People with hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome, as well as their relatives, could take part in it.
NCCS said the incident was caused by an administrative error. The centre’s chief operating officer and data protection officer, Chong Pang Boon, said that apart from email addresses, NRIC numbers, phone numbers or other personal data were not disclosed.

Incident investigation
The centre said it had informed the recipients of the email in order to provide support and consider their requests. NCCS also reported the incident to Singapore’s Ministry of Health and the Personal Data Protection Commission.
The Personal Data Protection Commission confirmed that it is investigating the case. NCCS said it is reviewing internal procedures to prevent the error from recurring.
