The Executive Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States has received an official statement from Moldova regarding its withdrawal from a number of key agreements of the organization. Upon receiving the document, the CIS initiated the relevant procedure to terminate Moldova’s participation in these agreements.
This was stated by CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev, as quoted by Russian media.
At the same time, Lebedev asserts that Chisinau seeks to maintain cooperation in the economic sphere.
"We have initiated this procedure. It will take a whole year. But we have also received a statement from Chisinau indicating that it wishes to remain in the CIS economic cooperation framework," he noted.
Moldova is withdrawing from the CIS following a decision by parliament.
