In the United States, TV host Jimmy Kimmel said that an interview with James Talarico, the Democratic Party candidate in the Texas Senate election, will not be shown on the television broadcast of Jimmy Kimmel Live. The conversation is planned to be published directly on YouTube.
Kimmel's statement about the FCC
During Wednesday's episode of the show, Kimmel explained the decision by concerns over the possible reaction of the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) under President Donald Trump's administration. According to the host, the FCC had threatened him, his show, the ABC television network, affiliated stations, and local broadcasters over editorial decisions and guest invitations that, in his view, the commission did not like.
Kimmel said he decided not to air the interview on television out of consideration for local stations, including ABC-affiliated broadcasters in Texas. The Verge reports.

As the publication notes, nearly a year earlier, Jimmy Kimmel Live was taken off the air after threats from FCC Chairman Brendan Carr. In February, host Stephen Colbert also moved an interview with Talarico to YouTube. Colbert claimed that CBS had not allowed the conversation to be shown on air because of concerns about the FCC's reaction, citing the equal-time rule.
Earlier this year, the FCC also turned its attention to the program The View after an interview with Talarico. ABC, which broadcasts Jimmy Kimmel Live and The View, filed a lawsuit against the FCC last month. In the lawsuit, the company said the commission was conducting a retaliatory campaign against its networks and threatening to revoke broadcasting licenses.
