In Warsaw, sirens went off again following the ALARM-26 drills
In Warsaw on the evening of July 21, after the official conclusion of the ALARM-26 exercises, air raid sirens sounded again. The Polish Government Security Center (RCB) stated that the sirens were not part of the exercises and cited a technical malfunction as the most likely cause.
The ALARM-26 exercises took place on Tuesday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. After 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., the RCB issued at least two announcements confirming the end of the active phase of the exercises, during which the sirens were used.
However, after 9:00 p.m., a warning signal indicating an emergency sounded again in the Polish capital. RCB spokesperson Piotr Blaszczyk confirmed that this signal was not a planned part of ALARM-26.
“We are currently investigating the cause of this activation. We are considering several scenarios, including the most likely one—a technical malfunction,” Błaszczyk said, according to European Truth, citing RMF 24.
The Government Security Center is also determining who is responsible for the malfunction in the alert system. The purpose of the exercises was to test the readiness of the alert systems for the military and the civilian population and to identify potential shortcomings in the operations of emergency response services.
