Authorities in Wakefield are investigating the death of a man following a dog bite on suspicion of murder

West Yorkshire Police have launched a murder investigation following the death of a man who was bitten by a dog in Wakefield, according to The Guardian.

Law enforcement was called on Saturday shortly after 1:30 p.m. following a report of an altercation that had occurred a short time earlier on a walking path along a former railroad line. During the altercation, the dog bit a 55-year-old man.

The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where he died shortly after 7:00 p.m. Police arrested a 55-year-old man on suspicion of murder, as well as for allowing a dog to run loose in a public place and cause injury. He is currently in custody.

Police seized the dog, which investigators believe was involved in the incident. The case is being handled by the Homicide and Serious Crimes Unit.

Detectives are urging witnesses to come forward, particularly two women who stopped to help the victim and direct the police. According to investigators, one of them is named Sophie. The police are also asking for information from anyone who may have seen or heard any part of the altercation between the two men.
