Ukraine May Be Without a Defense Minister Until August 18 — MP

People’s Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak reported that during a brief meeting of the “Servant of the People” faction, lawmakers were informed that a search was underway for another candidate for the position of Ukraine’s defense minister. The options under consideration do not include Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko or Mykhailo Fedorov, who was dismissed from the Ministry of Defense, and the vote on the appointment will take place after the Verkhovna Rada’s recess.

Yaroslav Zheleznyak noted that the final decision or official announcement regarding a new candidate for the top position in the Defense Ministry could come either today at 9:00 p.m., or the appointment process could be postponed until August, since the next scheduled session of the Rada is on August 18.

Here’s the situation: there’s no Minister of Foreign Affairs, no Minister of Defense, no Head of the SBU, no Head of Foreign Intelligence… That’s exactly how we’ll win,” the MP said.

A protest is taking place in Kyiv against the removal of Mykhailo Fedorov from his post as Ukraine’s Minister of Defense, along with the entire government. More than a thousand people have gathered in the square next to the Ivan Franko Theater, not far from the Office of the President of Ukraine.

A protest against Mykhailo Fedorov’s resignation has begun in Lviv.

Deputy Commander of the Ukrainian Air Force Pavlo Yelizarov announced that he had submitted his resignation.
