Supreme Court response

Separately, India’s Supreme Court initiated proceedings on its own motion regarding recent rape cases in Delhi and the National Capital Region. The court said that the rising number of such cases indicates a systemic failure in law enforcement and administration.

According to DW, the court also compared the current situation with the 2012 Nirbhaya case, which became a symbol of India’s fight against sexual violence and prompted major legislative reforms. The Supreme Court questioned whether real progress had been made in the law enforcement system over nearly 14 years.
