Five rehabilitated sea turtles released into the sea in Israel
Five sea turtles that underwent rehabilitation at the National Sea Turtle Rescue Center of the Israel Nature and Parks Authority were released into the sea on the beach of Beit Yanai National Park in Israel. The turtles named Miriam, Chapa, Matzav, Ran, and Nidal returned to their natural habitat.
Treatment after becoming entangled in plastic
As The Jerusalem Post reports, the animals spent several months at the center. They received veterinary care for limb injuries sustained after becoming entangled in plastic bags. After rehabilitation was completed, the turtles were released near the shore so they could reach the water more quickly.
About 250 people, mostly families with children who came to Beit Yanai Beach, watched the animals return to the sea.

Call to report affected animals
The Israel Nature and Parks Authority said it receives numerous reports of sea turtles washing ashore entangled in plastic bags. The agency called on people who find an injured or dead sea turtle to report it to the hotline at 3639.
The authority also asked people not to remove ropes or plastic waste from the animals themselves. It recommends taking the turtle, together with the bag or other waste in which it became entangled, to the rescue center for proper treatment. According to the agency, some people, despite these recommendations, removed the plastic themselves and returned the turtles to the sea.
