Video: Robot injures child at dance show in China

An incident involving a humanoid robot occurred at a public event in China: the device, intended for entertainment, went out of control and struck a young boy.

A video of the moment has already gone viral on social media.

The G1 robot from the Chinese company Unitree Robotics was performing dance moves in front of the audience. The video shows the child trying to avoid being hit by holding his arms close to his body, but the metal robot’s limbs struck him in the face.

The parents immediately took the boy away, and staff turned off the machine. The child suffered a minor bruise and was very frightened. Witnesses and experts emphasize that such incidents raise questions about the safety of robotics and the lack of physical barriers at public events.

The developers assure that their robots are safe, but this incident shows that modern AI algorithms cannot yet 100% guarantee the safety of people in close proximity to moving mechanisms.

Earlier, the Japanese company SoftBank Robotics officially registered a world record for its robot Pepper, which is recognized as the world’s first mass-produced humanoid robot.
