Zelenskyy says Canada is ready to join the FREYJA program
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said after talks with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in Calgary that Canada is ready to join the European FREYJA missile defense program. According to him, the Canadian side will also provide Ukraine with interceptor missiles for air defense worth 350 million Canadian dollars.
As Anadolu Agency reports, the leaders discussed winter support for Ukraine, energy, air defense, defense cooperation and economic projects. Zelenskyy also said that Canada is ready to help Ukraine secure financing for budgetary and military needs in 2026 and 2027.
Air defense assistance
Carney confirmed that a package of critically important interceptor missiles worth 350 million Canadian dollars will be transferred to Ukraine through the JUMPSTART mechanism. According to him, this assistance is intended to protect the country, its infrastructure and its airspace.

Zelenskyy said that Kyiv and Ottawa are working on a separate agreement on drones and expect to reach a full agreement soon. During the visit, the sides signed a declaration on a 100-year partnership. According to the Ukrainian president, the value of agreements reached during the visit exceeded $2 billion.
Sanctions and contacts with the United States
The Ukrainian president said that Canada is preparing a sanctions package intended to make it more difficult for the Russian Federation, the aggressor state, to produce ballistic missiles. He also said that the Ukrainian delegation plans to meet with U.S. officials in New York later in September; energy and food security may be among the topics.
Zelenskyy added that Ukraine continues to rely on U.S. Patriot systems, missiles for them, and intelligence information from the United States and European partners.
