Actress Maria Mashkova renounced her Russian citizenship
Russian actress Maria Mashkova, known for her roles in the TV series *Don’t Be Born Beautiful*, renounced her Russian citizenship and is continuing her career in the United States. After Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, she publicly condemned the war and severed ties with her father—Russian actor Vladimir Mashkov, who supports the Kremlin’s policies.
The actress announced her change of citizenship to her followers on social media. She also simplified her official name, dropping her full name and patronymic, and now goes by the name Masha Mashkova.
Even before the full-scale war began, the actress’s life was closely tied to the United States. In 2009, she married Alexander Slobodyanik, an American pianist of Ukrainian descent, and in 2022, she moved permanently to the United States.
In the U.S., Mashkova continued her acting career. She is currently filming the American series *For the Sake of All Mankind* and has also presented her own theatrical production, *Nadezhdyna*, which will soon embark on a farewell tour of Europe.
From the very first days of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the actress has openly spoken out against the war. On her social media accounts, she posted a photo from Kyiv and stated that Russia had unleashed a real war against Ukraine.
“I don’t know how Russians will live from now on, but my heart is with the people of Ukraine right now—and my heart is being bombed too,” Mashkova wrote.
Her public stance led to a rift in her relationship with her father. According to the actress, they no longer communicate due to their opposing views on the war. In an interview, Mashkova stated that she does not see her father in her future life, though she emphasized that she continues to love him.
The actress continues to regularly speak out about the war in her posts, supports Ukraine, and expresses hope for a swift end to the hostilities. In one of her latest videos, she also recalled her visit to Kyiv in 2019.
