In the US, the electric Mercedes-Benz G 580 gets two charging ports — InsideEVs

In the United States, the 2027 model-year electric Mercedes-Benz G 580 SUV has received two charging ports, greater range and faster DC charging. The vehicle is already available to order from US dealers, InsideEVs reports.

Two ports under one cover

Mercedes-Benz has replaced the CCS1 connector used in the previous version of the model with two separate ports under one cover. The NACS connector, similar to the one used by Tesla, is intended only for fast DC charging. The second J1772 port is intended for Level 2 AC charging.

For CCS1 charging stations, the automaker will provide a free adapter. However, to use Tesla Destination chargers and other chargers with an NACS connector, owners will need an NACS-to-J1772 adapter. It is not included with the vehicle.

Range and charging

The 117 kWh battery and maximum charging power of 200 kW remain unchanged. According to Mercedes-Benz, charging the battery from 0% to 80% now takes 29 minutes, compared with 32 minutes in the previous model. With AC power, the vehicle can accept up to 9.6 kW.

Average energy consumption has decreased from 54 to 48 kWh per 100 miles. The EPA-estimated range has increased by 10 miles, to 249 miles on a single charge. The model is fitted with 20-inch wheels, as was the previous version.

The SUV weighs 6,746 pounds and has a four-motor powertrain: a two-speed electric motor is installed at each wheel. Total output is 579 horsepower, while torque is 859 lb-ft. Acceleration to 60 mph takes 4.6 seconds. The G 580 also has a low-range gear, virtual differential locks and a G Turn function that allows the vehicle to turn around in place.

The starting price of the 2027 model-year Mercedes-Benz G 580 Electric is $165,200 including delivery, compared with $164,550 last year.
