The CEO of Cerebras said that building a new business requires total dedication
Andrew Feldman, co-founder and CEO of AI chip manufacturer Cerebras, stated that creating something new and ambitious is incompatible with a 38-hour workweek and a work-life balance. He made these remarks on the 20VC podcast, according to Fortune.
According to Feldman, people can lead fulfilling lives, pursue meaningful endeavors, and choose different paths to happiness. At the same time, in his view, building a new business from scratch and striving to make it great is not a part-time job and cannot be squeezed into 30, 40, or 50 hours a week. He added that this approach comes at a cost.
Feldman noted that it’s not about a fixed number of hours worked. In his view, what matters is passion for the work, focus on the task at hand, a desire to change the world, achieve the best results, and help the team grow stronger. The Fortune article values Cerebras at $49.5 billion.

Fortune also cites similar views from other tech industry figures. LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman has previously said that founders who want to succeed must give their all to their business. Google co-founder Sergey Brin cited 60 hours per week as the optimal level of productivity for the Google Gemini team.
Dan Kaplan, head of the HR executive practice at ZRG Partners, told Fortune that for young professionals, a 40-hour workweek is often not enough for career growth. At the same time, he emphasized that the point is not to reach a specific number of hours, but to be willing to work extra hours until the task is completed.
