Dawn reviewer notes improved shooting in Modern Warfare 4 beta

In Pakistan, the Dawn publication published its reviewer's impressions of the open beta test of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. The author noted substantially improved shooting mechanics, faster character movement, and successful multiplayer maps. At the same time, he described some of the announced innovations as more flashy than useful.

Six maps, campaign missions, and a map for Warzone were available to players in the beta version. The reviewer emphasized that the test build is not final and said he plans to give the game a final assessment after its release in October.

More accurate shooting

The author called the abandonment of weapon bloom—the random spread of bullets during sustained automatic fire that does not depend on recoil control—the most important change. In his assessment, shots in Modern Warfare 4 correspond more accurately to aiming, and firefights have become more comfortable. Hip fire has also become more effective.

The reviewer positively assessed the detail of the weapons and the animations of interacting with them, including removing a magazine, checking the chamber, and disassembling a pistol. At the same time, he pointed to the excessively loud sound of gunfire, which makes it harder to hear opponents' footsteps or communicate with friends. Among the beta version's problems, he also named lag and matchmaking based on skill level rather than connection quality.

Maps and new modes

The author named Silkworm, Rooftops, and Cachette as the best among the available maps. In particular, Rooftops stands out for its varying elevations and several directions for combat at different ranges. By contrast, he considered Transit too small and chaotic because of the large number of players in a confined space. On PlayStation 5, the reviewer also recorded a serious drop in frame rate in one area of Transit.

Among the new modes, the author tried Kill Block, a 10-versus-10 match in which all participants receive the same random loadout and the arena configuration changes every two rounds. Infinity Ward says there are more than 500 possible combinations. At the same time, the constant changes of locations, according to the reviewer, made it harder to find one's way around.

The author gave a mixed assessment to the new Apex Attachments, which unlock after a weapon reaches its maximum level. Some of these modifications, including a pump-action shotgun conversion with explosive rounds, were useful. Others, such as a railgun for the AK-47, proved of little use because of their slow charging in fast-paced battles.
