"Next winter will be very difficult," says Shmyhal

Ukraine is already preparing its power grid for the upcoming heating season, which is expected to be no less challenging than the previous one.

This was stated by Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal during the Conference on Ukraine’s Recovery.

According to him, preparations for winter are being carried out in collaboration with international partners and include the restoration and protection of energy infrastructure.

The plan calls for the restoration of 10 GW of damaged generating capacity, as well as the creation of approximately 3 GW of new decentralized energy facilities that will be able to operate autonomously and will be less vulnerable to Russian attacks.

In addition, Ukraine is continuing to build a multi-layered system to protect energy facilities from missile and drone strikes and is working to strengthen its air defense.

Shmyhal also emphasized the need to increase sanctions pressure on Russia to force it to cease its aggression and return to negotiations.

“Regardless of whether this is a winter during the war or whether the war has already ended, this winter will be difficult, and we must be prepared for it,” the minister stressed.
