The NBU has launched unscheduled inspections of Sense Bank due to possible interference with financial monitoring

The National Bank of Ukraine has launched unscheduled inspections of Sense Bank due to possible interference with the bank’s automated system and a suspected violation of financial monitoring requirements during collateral deposit transactions.

The regulator will verify whether there was any interference with the bank’s automated system, whether management issued relevant instructions to employees, and whether the bank complied with financial monitoring legislation during collateral transactions.

“Based on the results of these procedures, further supervisory decisions will be made in accordance with the findings, established facts, and the NBU’s authority,” the National Bank stated.

At the same time, the NBU emphasized that it does not have access to banks’ automated systems and cannot shut them down or interfere with their operation. Furthermore, the regulator neither approves nor prohibits individual financial transactions by customers.

“Monitoring customer transactions, analyzing them, and identifying and stopping suspicious transactions is the responsibility of the banks,” the NBU emphasized.

The investigation comes amid statements by the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) regarding the case involving the posting of bail for former Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko.

As a reminder, Iryna Mudra, the former deputy head of the Office of the President, has been detained.

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the SAPO exposed a criminal organization operating under the leadership of current and former members of the Ukrainian Parliament, with the participation of high-ranking officials from the Office of the President of Ukraine and other individuals. Anti-corruption authorities have released the full audio recording related to the case.

As a reminder, Stolar confirmed that NABU conducted searches at his home as part of Operation Forest Gump.

Searches are also being conducted at Sens Bank as part of a special anti-corruption operation by NABU and the SAP.
