Seven OGP prosecutors may be fired following the Carthage scandal
Seven prosecutors from various departments of the Office of the Prosecutor General are to be referred to the Qualification and Disciplinary Commission for Prosecutors to determine whether they should be dismissed. The decision is related to a corruption scandal and investigations by NABU and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO).
According to Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko, the OGP is reviewing civil servants and prosecutors who were appointed to the Office on the recommendation of Serhiy Kropiva, the main suspect in the “Carthage” investigation, or who are themselves implicated in the case.
Kravchenko noted that the dismissal procedure is simpler for civil servants. Prosecutors, however, can only be removed from office by a decision of the Qualification and Disciplinary Commission for Prosecutors (KDKP), so relevant motions regarding seven prosecutors are currently being prepared.
In addition, the Office of the Prosecutor General has issued an order for mass polygraph testing of employees.
They will also monitor the possible involvement of prosecution office employees in unlawful activities. Based on the results of these checks, decisions will be made regarding the future employment of these employees at the Office of the Prosecutor General.
Prosecutor General Kravchenko refused to resign voluntarily.
Prosecutor General Kravchenko disappeared after the NABU and SAP operation began. According to UP’s sources in political circles, Kravchenko drove into the government quarter, after which no one has seen him.
