Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, responded to a statement by Denis Yaroslavsky, an officer with the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Assault Troops Command, regarding possible prolonged restrictions in Ukrainian cities this winter.
Yaroslavsky stated that due to continued Russian attacks this winter, Kyiv, Odesa, and Kharkiv could allegedly face “lockdowns” lasting up to two weeks.
The Center emphasized that this information is not an official forecast and does not correspond to reality. According to Kovalenko, this is merely the personal opinion of a single military officer who is not involved in the country’s preparations for the winter period.
Kovalenko also pointed out the incorrect use of the term “lockdown.” He reminded that there were no lockdowns in Ukraine last winter, and the most recent such restrictions were imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the same time, the head of the CPD acknowledged that Russia may continue to strike Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and create additional difficulties this winter.
He urged Ukrainians not to panic over unconfirmed forecasts and noted that Ukraine has already weathered more than one difficult winter amid the war.
