Video: The prosecutor's office has uncovered widespread violations in the supply of food to prisons
Law enforcement officials uncovered widespread violations in the supply of food to facilities of the State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine. According to the investigation, between 2025 and 2026, products worth over 100 million hryvnias were delivered to correctional facilities based on quality and safety documents that appear to be forged.
Inspections revealed that suppliers provided manufacturers’ declarations and other documents purported to confirm the origin and quality of the products. At the same time, some of the manufacturers listed in these documents did not actually produce the goods in question. In addition, prosecutors established that products of unknown origin were supplied to most regions of Ukraine.
Law enforcement agencies are currently investigating nearly 400 criminal cases under articles related to embezzlement of budget funds, document forgery, official forgery, and violations of sanitary rules and regulations.
A separate case was uncovered in Zakarpattia. According to the investigation, employees of one of the correctional facilities illegally appropriated nearly a metric ton of meat and fish products, which they planned to sell later.
Two officials were notified of their status as suspects in the misappropriation of property through abuse of official position, committed by a group of individuals acting in concert under martial law.
This was reported on July 16 by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
As a reminder, the National Police concluded the nationwide special operation “Gentlemen-2026,” during which law enforcement officers conducted 435 searches in 23 regions of Ukraine and Kyiv, dismantled 12 underground drug laboratories, and detained 34 people.
