Defending the President of Ukraine: An Important Response to Criticism of Corruption

The continuing corruption scandal in Ukraine has prompted presidential adviser Andriy Yermak to defend Volodymyr Zelenskyy, arguing that he is not a corrupt figure. With the recent resignations of the Energy and Justice Ministers linked to a major corruption investigation, Yermak said that Zelenskyy should definitely remain safe from suspicion, as he has declared war on corruption and supports fully independent investigations.

At a time when EU countries are demanding more transparency and anti-corruption from Ukraine, Yermak also pointed out that certain political forces could use these investigations to discredit the Ukrainian leadership. In particular, Europe is emphasizing the need to provide a concrete plan to fight corruption.

Key decisions by the EU and the use of frozen Russian assets could be critical to helping Ukraine through these challenges.
