Shelling leaves Belgorod without electricity and heating (Video)

On the night of 6 February, Belgorod came under shelling, according to the region’s governor, Vyacheslav Gladkov. He said significant damage was recorded to the city’s energy infrastructure as well as facilities in several districts of the region.

This was reported by Russian state-aligned media outlets.

Restoration work continued until the morning, but full power supply to the city has not yet been restored, Gladkov stressed.

Belgorod Mayor Valentin Demidov уточнив that the city was hit by a massive missile strike. There were no casualties, but serious damage to infrastructure was reported. According to some Telegram channels, the strikes were carried out using HIMARS systems.

Local media report that the Frunzenskaya substation in the village of Dragunskoye, Belgorod district, was hit five times, and that the city’s combined heat and power plant (CHP) was also struck. Belgorod residents say that following the shelling, electricity and heating were cut off in several areas.

Russian residents are complaining about the lack of heating in Belgorod amid abnormally low temperatures.

It is recalled that most of Belgorod and eight districts of the region were left without electricity following severe damage to an infrastructure facility during a missile attack on 3 February. The Frunzenskaya substation (330/110/10 kV, 50 Hz) near the village of Dragunskoye and the Belgorod substation (330/110 kV, 50 Hz) near Storozhevaya Street were hit. These strikes caused local disruptions to the power grid, leading to electricity supply problems in nine municipalities across the region.

Earlier, on the evening of 8 January, the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched a missile strike on Belgorod. As a result of that attack, “serious damage to an infrastructure facility” was reported. The targets were said to include the Storozhevaya substation and the Luch CHP plant.
