Paratroopers of the 79th Brigade crush occupiers’ “Oplot” battalion near Pokrovsk
Mykolaiv paratroopers of the 79th Separate Air Assault Brigade delivered a crushing defeat to enemy units on one of the hottest sections of the front.
This was reported on Facebook by the brigade.
During intense fighting near Pokrovsk, soldiers of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces destroyed the 2nd Battalion of Russia’s 5th Motor Rifle Brigade “Oplot”, forcing the remnants of the enemy forces into a hurried retreat.
The encounter with this unit had particular symbolic significance for Ukrainian defenders, as the formation is named after the eliminated militant leader Alexander Zakharchenko.
It was against these same “Oplot” fighters that the legendary Ukrainian “cyborgs” from the 79th Brigade fought fierce battles for Donetsk International Airport back in 2014 while defending Ukrainian land.
Twelve years after the first clashes, the paratroopers once again proved their superiority over their long-time enemy, demonstrating high professionalism and a strong determination for retribution.
The scale of the defeat proved so severe that the Russian command was forced to immediately withdraw the surviving soldiers of the battalion from the front line.
According to intelligence data, most of the occupiers’ personnel and armoured vehicles were destroyed during a failed attempt to storm Ukrainian defensive positions.
The enemy is now trying to urgently “patch holes” in its defence, hastily redeploying the remnants of other battered units to nearby settlements in an attempt to contain the advance of Ukrainian forces.
Earlier, Ukrainian forces struck drone depots and occupiers’ bases in three regions.
They also liberated more territory in a single month than the enemy captured for the first time since 2024.
