In Kyiv, an ambulance vehicle was severely damaged as a result of a Russian strike. During a repeated drone hit, a medic was killed.
This was reported by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
Photos from the scene have already appeared online. The images show that the emergency medical vehicle was riddled with shrapnel, with fragments of an enemy UAV scattered around.
A red medic’s cap was left lying on the asphalt.
The deceased was named Serhii Mykolaiovych Smoliak. He was 56 years old.
When the emergency medical and disaster medicine team arrived at the site of the shelling of a residential building, Russian forces carried out a repeated strike. Serhii Smoliak was killed on the spot, and four other medical workers were injured.
In total, four people were killed in the capital during the night, and another 24 were injured. Sixteen victims were hospitalised, while others received medical assistance at the scene. Among the injured were also five rescuers.
The greatest destruction was recorded in residential buildings and other civilian facilities in four districts of the city — including a shopping centre, a sanatorium, and a children’s playground in the courtyard of a residential building. Damage to critical infrastructure was also recorded. In some areas, disruptions to electricity and water supply are being observed.
On the night of 9 January (from 07:30 p.m. on 8 January), the enemy carried out a combined strike on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure facilities using attack UAVs, as well as sea- and ground-launched missiles.
Russian terrorist forces conducted a massive strike on residential areas of Kyiv, causing damage to civilian objects in several districts of the capital, in particular in Darnytskyi, Dniprovskyi, Desnianskyi, Pecherskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts.
