In Kharkiv region, occupiers suffer losses during attempted assault on Digtarne
At the beginning of the week, Russian occupation forces attempted to breach the border in the direction of the settlement of Digtarne in Kharkiv region.
According to Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, during the enemy attack—which involved small infantry groups—defensive forces eliminated around 21 enemy combatants and recorded 11 wounded.
This indicates an intensification of aggressive actions by Russian forces in the region.
Demchenko emphasised that while the enemy continues attempts to expand the combat zone and attack positions of Ukrainian border guards, thanks to the heroism of Ukrainian troops, the Russians have achieved no success in reaching their objectives.
“The enemy does not abandon attempts to breach the state border and expand the combat zone across Ukrainian territory, but thanks to the resilience and courage of every Ukrainian soldier and border guard, the enemy has not been able to achieve results in this direction,” the spokesperson stated.
He added that near the border village of Sotnytskyi Kozachok in Kharkiv region, no enemy activity is currently observed.
Meanwhile, the day before, the occupiers attempted to storm border guard positions in the direction of the settlement of Vovchanski Khutory but suffered losses and failed to advance.
Demchenko also commented on the situation near the village of Hrabovske in Sumy region: “The enemy is inside the settlement… At one point, they entered, tried to move beyond the settlement and attack positions of Ukrainian defenders further. However, they have also been unable to make progress within the Krasnopil community, particularly towards Hrabovske,” he said.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has reported significant losses among Russian forces, which as of 16 January 2026 have exceeded 1.22 million personnel.
