A Russian agent who was tracking fuel tankers was detained in the Odesa region
The SBU detained a man in the Odesa region who is suspected of collaborating with Russian intelligence agencies. According to investigators, he was collecting the coordinates of gas stations, military fuel trucks, and rail convoys, and also attempted to install a GPS tracker on a military fuel tanker.
The man was detained while carrying out one of these tasks. He has already been notified of the suspicion of high treason, and if found guilty, he faces life imprisonment.
The Security Service of Ukraine reported the detention of another agent of the Russian special services in the Odesa region. According to investigators, the man was helping the enemy prepare strikes against the fuel and energy infrastructure in southern Ukraine. According to the security service, the detainee worked for the FSB and was gathering information on facilities that could become targets of Russian missile and drone attacks.
He was detained while installing a tracker
According to the SBU, the man was caught “red-handed.” At that moment, he was attempting to install a GPS tracker on a military fuel tanker.
Investigators believe that the Russian military planned to use this device to track the tanker’s movements in real time and launch a precision strike against it. “The man was caught red-handed while installing a GPS tracker on a military fuel tanker in order to use it to guide an enemy attack in real time,” the SBU reported.
What exactly was he supposed to do?
According to law enforcement officials, the detainee is a local unemployed man who was recruited by FSB agents. The security service claims that the Russians found him through Telegram channels where he was looking for quick money.
After being recruited, the man was given a series of tasks. These included locating and transmitting the coordinates of gas stations, the locations of military fuel tankers, and “Ukrzaliznytsia” freight trains used by the Defense Forces.
The SBU notes that in this way, the Russian military planned to strike at fuel infrastructure to disrupt supplies to the Ukrainian military and destabilize the situation in the southern regions of the country. “Through targeted strikes on fuel tankers, freight trains, and local gas stations, the enemy planned to disrupt supply lines to the front and destabilize the internal situation in southern Ukraine,” the SBU reported.
What Was Found During the Search
After the arrest, law enforcement officers conducted a search. According to the security service, a GPS tracker was seized from the man, which he was supposed to install on a military fuel tanker.
Law enforcement also found a cell phone containing evidence that, according to the investigation, confirms his ties to Russian intelligence services and his execution of the assigned tasks.
What punishment does he face
The detainee was notified of the charges against him under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—treason committed under martial law. Currently, the court has ordered his pretrial detention without the possibility of bail. If the man is found guilty in court, he faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The SBU emphasizes that it continues to expose spy networks working for Russian intelligence services and urges citizens not to accept dubious “side jobs” online, which may be orchestrated by representatives of the aggressor country. This was reported by the SBU.
