Russia attacked Ukraine with more than 60 drones: most were shot down by air defence
On the night of January 6, Russian forces carried out a large-scale attack on Ukraine, using more than 60 strike unmanned aerial vehicles. Among them were Shahed-type drones, Gerbera drones, and others. Most of the aerial targets were destroyed by air defence forces, however, hits were also recorded.
This was reported by the Air Force.
Details of the attack
The attack lasted from 06:00p.m. on January 5. In total, the enemy launched 61 drones from the following directions:
- Millerovo, Kursk, Oryol (Russian Federation),
- the temporarily occupied territory of Donetsk Oblast.
About 40 drones were Shahed-type strike UAVs.
Air defence operations
The air attack was repelled by:
- aviation,
- anti-aircraft missile troops,
- electronic warfare units,
- unmanned systems,
- mobile fire groups of the Defence Forces of Ukraine.
As of 08:30, air defence had shot down or suppressed 53 enemy drones in the north, centre, and east of the country.
Consequences
At the same time, hits by eight strike UAVs were recorded at six locations. Information on damage and casualties is being уточнюється (being clarified).
We recall that drones attacked 20 Russian regions, with 129 UAVs destroyed.
In addition, long-range drones of the SBU Special Operations Centre “Alpha” successfully struck two key facilities of the Russian oil and gas sector.
In the Russian city of Saratov, a fire was recorded in the area of the local oil refinery.
