Russia will mobilize another 600,000 people in 2026–2027
Russia is preparing for a possible new wave of mobilization, under which it plans to draft up to 600,000 people into the war against Ukraine—300,000 each in 2026 and 2027.
According to Ukrainian intelligence, the Russian General Staff has already drawn up a plan to this effect. The mobilized troops are intended to reinforce units currently fighting against Ukraine, as well as units that are currently being formed.
The need for additional recruitment is attributed to significant losses suffered by the Russian army and difficulties in recruiting new contract soldiers. From January through July 2026, Russia’s personnel losses, according to intelligence reports, totaled approximately 240,000 people, of whom at least 140,000 were killed.
Moscow is also expanding opportunities to recruit convicts, and some of the mobilized personnel may be trained at military training grounds in Belarus. Vladimir Putin may make a final decision on a new wave of mobilization after the elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation, scheduled for September 18–20, 2026.

There will be no quick end to the war in Ukraine, as Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has no intention of stopping it.
On August 25, the Vatican’s top diplomat, Paul Richard Gallagher, met in Moscow with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The parties discussed the war against Ukraine and agreed to maintain contact. The Vatican emphasized that it advocates for a cessation of hostilities and the start of genuine negotiations.
