Russia blocks the “I Want to Return” project website

The Russian regulator Roskomnadzor has blocked access to the website of the “I Want to Return” project, run by Ukraine’s Coordinating Headquarters on Prisoner Affairs.

According to the Headquarters, the site publishes detailed information about injured and deceased Russian soldiers, including names, surnames, military ID numbers, units, diagnoses, and dates of injury or death.

The Headquarters noted that the blocking is another attempt by the Kremlin to hide the real scale of Russian military losses in Ukraine. The database already contains information on over 156,000 killed and 96,000 wounded Russian servicemen, with data updated regularly.

The project launched in January 2026, and within a month, Russia began blocking access to it domestically. Relatives of Russian soldiers now have to use VPN services to access the information.

Despite the restrictions, hundreds of users from Russia continue to check the site daily to learn the truth about the fate of their soldiers. The Coordinating Headquarters emphasized:

“The Russian authorities fear showing their own people the real consequences of the war against Ukraine. But everyone who visits ‘I Want to Return’ understands the true cost of Putin’s full-scale invasion.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that Ukrainian forces captured a Russian soldier responsible for the execution of Ukrainian POWs in Kursk region in October 2024.

Ukraine conducted a new prisoner exchange, returning 157 Ukrainians — including servicemen from the Armed Forces, National Guard, and State Border Guard Service — back home.
