The SBU has charged the commander of the Russian UAVs that attacked Nikopol

The Security Service of Ukraine has gathered evidence against the commander of a Russian Army unmanned aerial vehicle unit implicated in attacks on the Dnipropetrovsk region.

This was reported by the SBU press service.

The individual in question is Mikhail Shatunov—commander of the UAV unit of the Russian Federation’s 1199th Motorized Rifle Regiment—who, according to the investigation, organized attacks on the frontline town of Nikopol using kamikaze drones.

According to the SBU, the drones were launched from the territory of the temporarily occupied part of the Zaporizhzhia region. The suspect himself is a resident of occupied Sevastopol, and after the start of the full-scale invasion, he joined the Russian forces and later received a command position in the UAV unit.

The SBU has notified him of charges under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—treason and aiding an aggressor state. Additional legal classification of his actions as war crimes is also being prepared.

The investigation is ongoing under the procedural supervision of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

Earlier, the Security Service of Ukraine notified Russian generals and a vice admiral in absentia of their status as suspects for organizing a missile strike on Kharkiv on May 23, 2024.

The SBU detained a Russian agent who was guiding jet drones toward Kharkiv in real time.

The SBU released the interrogation of an occupier who shot Ukrainian prisoners of war in the Kursk region.
