Explosions reported in Kyiv and Dnipro during air raid alert amid Tu-160 activity — RMF24

On the night of October 7, an air raid alert was declared in Ukraine, including in Kyiv and Dnipro, due to the threat of a missile strike. Residents of both cities reported loud explosions in various districts.

Tu-160 activity

As RMF24 reports, the reason for the alert was the activity of Russia's Tu-160 strategic bombers — an aggressor state. According to the outlet, the aircraft took off from airfields in the Irkutsk region.

The Ukrainian Air Force warned that missiles launched by the bombers could reach Ukraine within several hours. RMF24 noted that Russia uses Tu-160 aircraft to launch Kh-101 cruise missiles, which pose a threat to infrastructure and civilians.

Reports of explosions

Local media and eyewitnesses also reported explosions in Kyiv and Dnipro. At that time, there was no detailed information about possible casualties or damage. Rescue services and the military were on standby, while the Ukrainian military urged people not to ignore air raid alerts and to proceed to shelters.

On Tuesday afternoon, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that, according to intelligence data, Russia was preparing a massive missile attack on Ukraine. Authorities did not rule out that the nighttime alerts and explosions could have been the beginning of a larger-scale offensive.
