Death toll in Odesa rises after Russian drone attacks, man dies in hospital

The number of people killed as a result of the massive drone attack on Odesa on 27 January has risen to four. An elderly man has died in hospital from injuries sustained in the attack.

This was reported on Telegram by the head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, Oleh Kiper.

“Unfortunately, the death of a fourth person as a result of the drone attack on Odesa on 27 January has been confirmed,” Kiper said.

According to him, the deceased lived in a destroyed building on Prokhorovska Street.

On the night of 27 January, Russian forces carried out a large-scale attack on Odesa and the surrounding region, using more than 50 drones. Residential neighbourhoods and civilian infrastructure were targeted. People were injured, and search operations were conducted to locate those trapped under the rubble.

As a result of the shelling, dozens of residential buildings were damaged, as well as a church, a kindergarten, a fitness centre and private vehicles. Large-scale fires broke out at several locations.

The Odesa Vocational Lyceum of Construction and Architecture suffered significant damage — a fire broke out in the building, which was promptly extinguished by rescuers.

One of the enemy drones struck a multi-storey residential building in the Perysip district on Prokhorovska Street. Rescuers freed 14 people from the rubble and dangerous areas, including children. According to the Regional Military Administration, a total of 35 people were injured, 12 of whom were hospitalised.

During the earlier search and rescue operation at the site where a drone hit a residential building, the bodies of three people were recovered.

On the night of 29 January, Russia launched another drone strike on Odesa, causing a fire at one of the city’s industrial facilities.

It is recalled that the enemy also attacked an infrastructure facility in Odesa using drones.

Drones also struck an oil depot in Russia’s Voronezh region.
