Enemy attacks residential buildings and railway infrastructure in Sumy region

Overnight, Russia once again attacked Ukrainian cities and villages, damaging residential buildings and logistics infrastructure in the Sumy region.

This was reported by the head of the Regional Military Administration, Oleksii Kuleba.

The Russian army carried out massive drone strikes on the railway infrastructure of Sumy region during the night.

In Shostka district, a railway worker — a station dispatcher on her way to work — was caught in the attack. She received prompt medical assistance.

The strike also hit the “Wagon of Invincibility”, a community shelter for heating residents. People were in shelters at the time. Railway buildings and a diesel locomotive were also damaged. Despite the attack, train operations were restored as soon as the security situation allowed.

The energy infrastructure of the railway in the district was also under targeted fire.

Additionally, the enemy struck a railway station in Okhtyrka district with drones, damaging technical facilities and tracks. Restoration work is underway.

Ukrainian authorities emphasized that this is another act of terrorism against Ukraine’s logistics, aimed at disrupting train operations. Ukrainian Railways is strengthening security protocols while continuing operations.

For context, on 4 February, Russian forces carried out targeted strikes on Zaporizhzhia and nearby settlements using ballistic missiles and drones. On the same day, they shelled a market in Druzhkivka, Donetsk region with cluster munitions and dropped two aerial bombs. Overnight, they also attacked the Dnipropetrovsk region, causing destruction in four districts.
