Erdogan offered to help Ukraine and Russia resume direct contacts

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a telephone conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. During the talks, the Turkish president stated that Ankara is ready to help establish direct contacts between Ukraine and Russia.

Erdogan also emphasized the importance of measures to ensure the safety of shipping in the Black Sea.

“Turkey is always ready to contribute to efforts to establish direct contacts between Russia and Ukraine,” the statement said.

Erdogan’s office noted that the leaders of Turkey and Russia discussed bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as regional and global issues. Erdogan emphasized the importance of efforts to ensure the safety of shipping in the Black Sea.
 

The Turkish president also wished the Russian dictator a happy birthday. Separately, Erdogan congratulated Putin on his party’s “success” in the elections to the Russian State Duma.

Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine does not plan to leave such strikes unanswered.
