942 Israeli checkpoints and barriers counted in West Bank — Anadolu Agency
In the occupied West Bank of the Jordan River in Palestine, 942 Israeli checkpoints, closure points and other barriers restricting Palestinians’ movement between cities, towns and villages have been counted. Updated data from the Palestinian Commission to Resist Colonization and the Wall and the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs were reported by Anadolu Agency.
Most restrictions in Hebron
The network consists of 824 fixed checkpoints and closure points, as well as 118 linear obstacles, including earth mounds, trenches and roadblocks. Their total length is 107.7 kilometres.
The highest number of fixed checkpoints and closure points was recorded in the Hebron governorate — 221. It is followed by Ramallah and Al-Bireh — 160, Nablus — 120, Bethlehem — 78, and Jerusalem — 62. Qalqilya counted 41 such facilities and Salfit 40. Jericho and the Jordan Valley have 27, Jenin and Tulkarm 26 each, and Tubas 23.
New points in Jenin
Over the past two months, 13 fixed checkpoints and gates were added in the West Bank, including 10 in the Jenin governorate. There, the number of fixed closure points rose from 16 to 26. New facilities were installed, in particular, in the areas of Al-Jalama, Arrana, Deir Abu Daif, at the entrance to Jenin, in Qabatiya, Umm at-Tut and near the Arab American University.

New gates were also installed on Al-Jariyat Road west of Ramallah and on rural roads in the west and northwest of the governorate. The closure of a single gate can force residents to use longer detours or isolate villages and areas for hours or days.
The number of barriers has grown for years
According to OCHA, there were 793 barriers in the West Bank in March 2024 and 925 in December 2025. According to the latest data from the Palestinian Commission and OCHA, their number reached 942. In 2003, approximately 757 obstacles were recorded in the region, of which 464 were earth mounds.
OCHA data for 2025 listed 89 24-hour checkpoints, 218 checkpoints operating part-time, 232 road gates, 114 linear closures, 167 earth mounds and 105 roadblocks. The assessment in the report says that the network is increasingly made up of permanent gates and checkpoints instead of temporary earth obstacles.
The restrictions affect Palestinians’ access to agricultural land, sources of income, schools, hospitals and workplaces. The Palestinian Commission also documented cases of gates being installed on Palestinian roads and land, including in Wadi Hamad and on the road to the home of a Palestinian family east of Umm Safa.
